     The Performance Governance System (PGS) Core Team headed by the Medical Center Chief Dr. Bryan O. Dalid, together with Ms. Rhodora M. Boiser, Ms. Kathlyn Lee F. Fuerzas, Mr. Fructuso Y. Vicada, Jr., Ms. Timie Mariz V. Pagarayon and Ms. Special Gazmen attended the 19th Governance Boot Camp Basic Class last February 20-22, 2019 at the Quest Hotel and Conference Center, Clark, Pampanga. The event was also attended by other 102 delegates from different hospitals, national government agencies and local government units.  

     First day activities include orientation and briefing on the Boot Camp Primer, module on Governance Values and Development Mindset by Dr. Jesus P. Estanislao (President of the Institute for Corporate Directors and Institute for Solidarity in Asia) which highlighted the importance of having the right set of values to create a culture of governance in the organization; and module on Strategy Fundamentals by Mr. Christian P. Zaens (Executive Director of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia) emphasizing that with the right understanding on strategy execution, one can still do business as usual while achieving breakthrough results.

     On the second day, Mr. Christian P. Zaens discussed the Disciplined Execution where he presented the core principles and evidence-based mechanisms proven to address the barriers to successful strategy execution. He then discussed about Beyond Cascading where organizations should know the difference between a strategy review and operations review as well as the vital role of Office for Strategy Management (OSM) and Multi-Sectoral Governance Council (MSGC) in the roadmap implementation. To strengthen collaboration among the delegates from Batangas Medical Center, Caraga Regional Hospital, Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital, Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Philippine Heart Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center, Southern Philippines Medical Center, Tondo Medical Center, Valenzuela Medical Center, Board of Investments, Department of Public Works and Highways, Government Service Insurance System, Philippine Competition Commission, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Provincial Government of La Union and Municipal Government of Makato, Aklan.

     During the third day, established PGS partners like the Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Army, and City Government of Balanga shared their trials, tribulations and triumphs in their journey towards the institutionalization stage. In the afternoon, a roundtable discussion was set up with the representatives from different agencies who has achieved institutionalization status to discuss the action plans and mentor the participants on how to creatively resolve issues in the execution and sustenance of strategies and implementation of PGS as a whole. As part of the program, ISA has awarded Dr. Dalid as the Ultimate Governance Warrior who exemplified leadership and displayed a clear understanding of topics discussed.

    With the additional education gained from the boot camp, the PGS Core Team will definitely intensify the implementation of the strategies for Proficiency Stage ( Special S. Gazmen).
