Anchored with the Universal Health Care Act’s (UHC) main objective of wide access and quality healthcare that is accessible to all Filipinos, the 47th Malasakit Center in the country was inaugurated at Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) last October 21, 2019 led by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who was the main proponent of the project.
The Malasakit Center is a “one-stop shop” for all financial assistance provided by different government agencies such as Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to serve the indigent patients for their treatment or hospitalization. The center will cater and serve people not only from Tagum City but also those who are from the nearby cities and municipalities within the region. In his speech, Senator Go said, “Ang malasakit center ay bahay lang po ito na one-stop shop. Ginawa siyang bahay o kuwarto para lahat ng pasyente doon na pupunta para matulungan. Pera po ito ng mga tao para sa mga tao and the funds will come from the budget of the agencies”.
With a grateful heart, DRMC’s Medical Center Chief, Dr. Bryan O. Dalid expressed his gratitude to Senator Bong Go and President Rodrigo Duterte in establishing and institutionalizing the Malasakit Center most especially at DRMC. (Yan)
