DRMC Celebrates Hospital Week 2016
by Special S. Gazmen

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 181, s. 1993, the National Hospital Week is observed nationwide every year to recognize the important role of hospitals in the provision of health services to the community to realize a healthy citizenry. Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) has celebrated Hospital Week 2016 with a theme, “Hospital: Kaagapay para sa Malusog na Isip at Katawan tungo sa Pagbabago”.
The weeklong activity from August 8-12, 2016 aimed to highlight the role of hospitals in the attainment of universal health care, and to foster camaraderie, team building and unity among the staff. It started with convocation, mass and followed by a motorcade around downtown area.
Food stalls were also opened serving different kinds of food and drinks. Chits were given to all employees and were used to buy food, drinks or other items of their choice. It was so festive and everyone was happy roaming around from one stall to another.
The first contest during the first day was the Bahay-Kubo, where each division built their version of bahay-kubo made of indigenous materials and the designs were after the ones seen in rural areas. Of course, creativity, originality and design were part of the criteria for judging and the Nursing Division won first place.
Aside from food stalls around, there were also booths of the Public Health Department and Medical Division Services where they conduct sessions on how to prevent diseases like HIV-AIDS, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and many others. They also had trivia questions to bystanders and gave prizes to every correct answer.
There was a Quiz Bowl on the 3rd day. It was not the usual quiz bowl. There were 8 teams in all, so each representative has to beat 7 others by running to the buzzer and make sure to give the correct answer. The questions were from the history of DRMC, Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME HR), Quality Management Service (QMS) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In the afternoon was a press conference called Kapihan sa DRMC. Media and the press were invited to witness the improvement of DRMC and the services it can give to Tagumeños and the nearby places. They can also raise questions and concerns regarding the procedures, services and even the staff of the hospital.
Other activities during the week were sports events, bloodletting, larong Pinoy and interpretative dance contest, all of which were really related to the theme that promotes a healthy mind and a healthy body.
The last day was the culmination day where the Search for Mr. and Ms. DRMC 2016 was the highlight. Eight pairs from the 4 divisions vie for the title. The candidates were judged in their swimwear, formal wear, sportswear, creative jeans and the question and answer portion. Special awards were given per category, and the question and answer wrapped it all up making Gemuel Royce Tamayo of the Ancillary Division and Abby Grace S.
